‘Leaving Home’ online screening – 12 March 2017
As judgement in the Bromwell Street matter is expected this month, Reclaim the City screens ‘Leaving Home’ – a documentary short film in four parts which chronicles the story of Woodstock resident Charol Jacobs’ brave stand against developers. Through 2016, Charol’s wendy house was the last obstacle to Swish Properties’ construction of a luxury apartment block, the Woodstock Quarter, on Main Road.
Charol’s stand inspired us, and her story is one that stands in for that of many families in Woodstock and Salt River who are weathering a new wave of forced removals from our city.
Colleagues in the media are invited to watch the film’s trailer here, and to join us for the online screening between 14 – 17 March on Reclaim the City’s Facebook page here. Reporters are welcome to request a copy of the film’s trailer for upload on your publication’s online platforms.
‘Leaving Home’ is directed by Daneel Knoetze and produced by Wagtale Films. The attached images may be used in publication (credit: Daneel Knoetze).
